StixBlitz 2009

UPDATE: Given it’s been a long day and there probably isn’t enough time to do a brilliant Blitz job of the Welshmans Reef site, we’ve made the decisions to extend the time for a site redesign to 2.30pm Sunday 22nd March. To be in the running to win the prize of $300 worth of vouchers of your choice, you must email organisers at barcampmelbourne dot org by 2.30pm Sunday 22nd March with;

  • The URL of the site;
  • The names of your team members
  • Any supporting notes or documentation

In the spirit of BarCamp, we’re holding a competition at StixCampNewstead to redesign the Welshmens Reef Vineyard website. The current site is yearning for some attention, and we’re opening it up to you, StixCampers, to redesign.

You have 24 hours from the time StixBlitz is announced to complete the site redesign.

Your goal:

To redesign the Welshmans Reef Vineyard web presence so that it;

  • Reflects the ambience, nature and business objectives of the Vineyard
  • Has Content Management capabilities so the website can be updated by the customer
  • Has a dynamically generated map with directions to the Vineyard
  • Allows website visitors to order online
  • Provides website visitors  suggestions on how to use WRV products such as verjuice
  • Is adherent to web standards such as CSS, HTML and WCAG

Your resources

You may use any technology you wish - but keep in mind you need to demonstrate a working dev site to the customer using only the resources at StixCamp! If this means bribing the organisers or other StixCampers to use their equipment with beer or chocolate that is entirely up to you and your team :)

The owners of Welshmans Reef Vineyard will be on hand during the day so that you’re able to clarify customer requirements with them.

Donna Benjamin took photos on Sunday morning and has released them under a Creative Commons license so feel free to use them in the rebuild. Get the StixBlitz pix from Flickr

Your team

You are free to form your own teams. We’ll probably do something to allow everyone to identify what skills we each have - such as PHP, RoR, database, web design, CSS, HTML etc. Please remember the principles of BarCamp - that is participation and inclusion.

Teams should be 3 people or less please.

Prize

Apart from being recognised as the WINNING TEAM of StixBlitz 2009 we have a terrific prize for you!
